"Mark possesses an original, exceptional and honest voice .I am proud to be included on his new recording.”
“Mark's is the best true country music I've heard since I moved to Nashville in 1993. It's not a put-on; it's the real deal.”
"Mark Evans is a truly gifted songsmith who can hold his own with Kris Kristofferson and Billy Joe Shaver.”
I met Mark last year for the first time in England where we both attended a songwriting class with Darrell Scott. It quickly became evident that he had a major creative talent and the passion to develop it. He possesses an original, exceptional and honest voice ..I am proud to be included on his new recording.

A few weeks ago, a writer from Cambridge, England named Mark Evans came to Nashville to attend the NSAI Songposium and record a live guitar/vocal record of the country music that he performs back in the pubs in England. When I first heard Mark’s music in an MP3 before I met him, I assumed he was an American living in England because his country music was so incredibly genuine— right down to the accent. Everything about his music—his writing, his playing and his singing—was entirely heartfelt. When I met Mark in person, he had a thick English accent when he spoke. But as soon as he started singing, anyone would swear he’s from the backwoods of North Carolina. I (and everyone else who had the pleasure of hearing him) was amazed.
After talking with Mark about his musical background, I understood. He had grown up listening to his mum’s old Hank Williams records when he was a kid. He loved Bobby Bare. He listened for hours to Billy Joe Shaver records. He studied the intricacies of John Prine songs. Instead of trying to imitate what’s hot on country radio right now, Mark instead draws from the musical roots of his childhood and comes up with songs that he feels in his heart. I can honestly say that after more than twelve years of working with hundreds of songs and clients in Nashville, Mark’s music is truly the most genuine country I’ve ever heard! The biggest difference between Mark and most other people is that he doesn’t try to be something he isn’t, or create imitations of music that he thinks others want to hear. Before he left Nashville, Mark had already been offered a publishing deal and had a meeting set up with a significant record label—proof that being real can and does pay off. While he’s back in England, many people in Nashville are out promoting his music to the industry— simply because they’re so affected by its sincerity.
Keep an eye—and ear—out for Mark Evans; I know you’ll be hearing more about him soon. In the meantime, focus on being yourself and creating music from your soul. Be Real!
